Celebrating the beginning of Advent
Last weekend marked the beginning of Advent, a very special time in the Christian calendar when we prepare our hearts and minds for the celebration of Christmas. To help us reflect on this season of hope, peace, joy, and love, Mr Quinlivan’s Primary 5/6 class led a thoughtful and engaging assembly on Friday morning.
Their assembly explored the meaning of Advent and the symbolism of the Advent wreath. Pupils shared reflections on each of the four candles and what they represent. They also reminded us that Advent is a time to be patient, to show kindness, and to take small steps every day to prepare for the arrival of Jesus at Christmas.
Throughout the week, all classes marked the start of Advent in their own ways. Pupils created beautiful Advent promise chains, wrote personal reflections, and designed class displays to show how they hope to spread kindness throughout December. Many classes also learned about the significance of the Advent wreath, lit the first candle during prayer time, and discussed how they can prepare spiritually in the weeks ahead.
It was a wonderful week of learning, reflection, and togetherness as we begin this journey through Advent as a school community.
