Working Together

14th Jan 2025

Every Tuesday morning before the school day begins, the children in P3 have the opportunity to play number games with their friends. Today they worked in pairs to play Snakes and Ladders.

Playing Snakes and Ladders is considered good because:

Snakes and Ladders is a fun and engaging way for the children to develop their turn-taking skills, patience and social interaction through playing with others.

Key benefits of playing Snakes and Ladders:

  • Early math skills: Children practice counting spaces on the board, reinforcing number recognition and understanding of quantity.
  • Turn-taking: The game naturally teaches children to take turns, promoting social skills and patience.
  • Basic strategy: While largely based on chance, children can start to develop simple strategic thinking by considering where to land on the board to potentially access ladders.
  • Language development: Discussing the game and the actions on the board can help children develop vocabulary and communication skills.
