January in P6/7!
P6/7 pupils have had a very busy and enjoyable January, packed full of learning, creativity, and memorable experiences.
In numeracy, pupils have been developing their understanding of fractions and decimals. They particularly enjoyed mental maths activities, rounding decimals, and counting in tenths and hundredths. A highlight for many was the Human Number Line Challenge, which brought maths to life in a fun and active way.
In literacy, pupils absolutely adored our work on playscripts. We read A Christmas Carol and composed our own imaginative endings, creating a brand-new scene entitled “A Christmas Miracle.” Pupils confidently demonstrated their understanding of playscript features, including stage directions, narrators, and dialogue. They also enjoyed working in small groups to act out scenes, using facial expressions, movement, and timing to really get into character.
We are currently completing the Irish News Literacy Programme, which has been met with great excitement. Pupils have been learning about the different features of a newspaper, researching its various sections, and discovering the roles of journalists and editors. We are looking forward to continuing this programme.
Our pupils also participated in an online Smoke Busters workshop, where they learned about the dangers of smoking and vaping, including the impact on health and finances. Pupils designed informative posters and created PowerPoint presentations using Just2Easy and Microsoft PowerPoint to share these important messages.
In Religion pupils have been learning about Saint Brigid. Today, we enjoyed a very special and memorable morning when the grandparents of our Primary 7 pupils visited the school to help create St Brigid’s Crosses. Everyone took part, and the crosses created were truly fantastic. It was a lovely, fun-filled experience for all.
We also celebrated Catholic Schools Week in January. Pupils attended and participated beautifully in a special Grandparents’ Mass. They wrote acrostic poems describing their grandparents and the special times they share together. The poems were written to a very high standard, and the Mass was a truly meaningful celebration.
Our pupils have worked extremely hard this month, and we are so proud of their enthusiasm and achievements. We are now looking forward to an action-packed February!
