Learning in P6/7!

15th Oct 2025

Our P6/7 pupils have been busy developing their literacy skills through an exciting historical writing project.
They explored the
reasons for and against going into the workhouse during the Irish Famine, drawing on their knowledge from the novel Under the Hawthorn Tree.

Using this understanding, pupils wrote diary entries from one of the children’s perspectives, explaining why they escaped Tom Daly’s fearful crowd on their way to the workhouse. Their diary recounts were heart-warming and emotional, written in chronological order, with clear reasons, time connectives, and beautiful presentation.

Pupils took great pride in producing their final pieces in outstanding handwriting, creating authentic 1845-style diary entries for a wall display.

Recently, they’ve also been getting into the Halloween spirit, designing spooky silhouette art that captures eerie scenes of full moons, wicked witches, and haunted houses.

This creative artwork will inspire our upcoming Halloween spooky story writingWell done, P6/7!
