Open Farm Visit 🐄🐑🚜

14th Jun 2025

🚜 P4 had a brilliant morning on Friday at Carmean Aberdeen Angus Farm outside Moneymore as part of Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend.

🚜 On arrival, we were met by John, Nicola, James and Lily who live and work on the farm.

🚜 During the morning, John showed the children lots of equipment that is used around the farm every day and how it works. Niamh pretended to be a new born calf at one point to show how a calving aid works!!

🚜 The children saw some of the animals around the farm and had the chance to pet the Shetland ponies and a new born lamb.

🚜 The tractors and quads were very popular with the children and we were amazed to learn that the back wheel on one of the tractors is over 2 metres high!

🚜 We finished the morning by planting sunflower seeds and playing an old fashioned game called Catch the rat!!

🚜 Thank you John, Nicola, James and Lily for welcoming us to your farm and for the lovely treats we received. Thanks also to Jacqueline who helped to look after the children. We all had a great time and Caroline and I can certainly see there are some great wee farmers of the future in this class!

🚜 Good luck for the rest of the Open Farm Weekend! 🐑🐄🚜
