Our School Numeracy Action Plan for This Year
Target:
• To improve the quality of the teaching and learning of mental calculation throughout the school and improve the children’s mental maths capabilities through the employment of a range of mental maths strategies.
Why Mental Maths Matters:
Strong mental calculation skills help children develop confidence, speed, and flexibility in problem-solving. These skills are essential for success in all areas of numeracy and beyond.
What We’re Doing in School:
- Teachers are receiving training to use a variety of mental maths strategies in daily lessons.
 - Regular mental maths sessions are being integrated into classroom routines.
 - Pupils will be encouraged to explain their thinking and use different approaches to solve problems mentally.

How You Can Support at Home:
We believe learning is most effective when school and home work together. To help you support your child, we are providing guidance documents for each key stage. These resources will include:
- Simple mental maths activities you can do at home.
 - Tips for encouraging quick recall of number facts.
 - Fun games and challenges to make mental maths enjoyable.

These documents are now available on our school website, under the 'Parents support at Home' section and will be sent home with pupils in the coming weeks.
If you do have any further queries or questions please don't be afraid to reach out.
