P7 Money Matters Workshop with Bank of Ireland
Primary 7 recently took part in a Money Matters workshop, delivered by Chloe from Bank of Ireland, which focused on helping pupils develop positive money habits from an early age.
Research shows that children can begin to develop an awareness of money from as young as three years old and, by the age of seven, may form money habits that last a lifetime. With this in mind, the workshop aimed to help pupils understand the value of money and how it works in everyday life.
During the session, Chloe introduced a range of key financial topics in a clear, age‑appropriate and engaging way. These included:
- The history of money
- Where money comes from
- How to be smart with cash
- Planning to save and spend wisely
- Budgeting
The programme was delivered through interesting stories, practical challenges and discussion, allowing pupils to take part in “money chats” without the use of complicated financial terminology. This approach helped pupils to feel confident asking questions and sharing ideas.
As part of the workshop, pupils also learned about Talking Cents, a helpful guide designed for parents and guardians. This resource supports families in continuing money conversations at home and reinforces learning around saving, spending and budgeting for children up to 12 years old.
The workshop was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved and provided valuable life skills that will support our pupils both now and in the future. We would like to thank Chloe and Bank of Ireland for delivering such an informative and enjoyable session.
