Our classroom was filled with excitement(and delicious smells!) as the children celebrated Shrove Tuesday by combining their Literacy and cooking skills.
Earlier in the week, the children worked hard on writing their own instructional texts all about how to make scotch pancakes. They carefully included:

A list of ingredients

Step-by-step instructions

Time connectives (first, next, then, finally)

Bossy verbs to make their instructions clear
The finished pieces were fantastic — full of detail and easy to follow. We have some budding chefs and authors in the making!
Of course, the best part was putting their instuctions to the test!
Our children helped to weigh, measure, crack eggs and mix to create their pancake masterpieces — they had even more fun eating them!
