Well done to our P7 pupil Hollie Wylie who, representing the school, has qualified for the 2024 Irish Minor Schools Championships in the National Aquatic Centre in the Sports Ireland Campus in Dublin.
At last Saturday's Primary Schools Cup & Championships in the Bangor Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex Hollie competed in the Girls 11 Year Old's 50SC Meter Freestyle event. She managed to beat her previous personal best time by 3.5 seconds to achieve the qualifying time she needed for Dublin.
This is a brilliant achievement and gives her the chance to swim in one of the world’s largest indoor water centres, with a 10-lane 50-metre x 25-metre international-standard swimming pool which has with two moveable floors which will allow it to be reconfigured for other depths!
In 2003 it was used for the 2003 Special Olympics. It has also hosted elite swimmers from across the globe, including teams from the USA, Great Britain, South Korea, Canada, Croatia and more for pre-Olympic Games training camps.
We all wish Hollie the best in her training and preparation for her big event in March 2024. 🏊
