The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch. 🧺 🥪🥙☕️

23rd Jan 2026

What a fantastic week we’ve had in Primary 2! We have been diving into our shared read, The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch, and the children have been buzzing with creativity, imagination, and lots of learning.

Throughout the week, the class explored the story in lots of hands-on and exciting ways. We painted beautiful lighthouse scenes, working carefully on colour, pattern, and shape. The children were so proud of their artwork, and our classroom is now filled with bright, bold lighthouse paintings!

As part of our writing focus, we have been learning all about instructional writing. The children created shopping lists and followed steps to make (and taste!) their own jam sandwiches—just like the ones in the story. They were fantastic at sequencing the instructions and thinking about the important bossy verbs that help give clear directions.

To finish off the week with a bit of fun, we brainstormed ideas for disgusting sandwiches Mrs Grinling could make to keep those pesky seagulls away! From slimy seaweed stacks to nasty noodle and pickle sandwiches, the children came up with wonderfully imaginative and truly terrible flavor combinations.

It has been a joyful week of reading, creating, writing, and exploring. Well done, Primary 2—your enthusiasm and hard work have been fantastic!
